Forest

Ecological Benefits

Through long-term forest protection and the absence of commercial harvesting, the Refora Project enables forests to develop naturally. This process increases carbon storage, strengthens biodiversity and improves the ecological resilience of forest ecosystems.

Carbon Storage and Old-Growth Development

Without timber harvesting, forests continue to accumulate living biomass and carbon stocks. Over time, the stands develop characteristics of mature or old-growth forests, including larger trees, layered canopies and higher structural complexity.

Biodiversity and Ecosystem Stability

Higher deadwood levels and undisturbed forest structures support a wide range of species including insects, fungi, birds and mammals. At the same time, intact soils and natural hydrology strengthen the forest’s resilience against drought, storms and other climate-related stressors.
